First World War Commemorative Events Weekend

A central feature of Berwick’s First World War project was a commemorative programme of talks, interactive performances and a fascinating exhibition illustrating the actions of Berwick men in the campaigns of 1915 and life for civilians on the Home Front in Berwick-upon-Tweed during the period.

On 25th April 1915 the 1st Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers landed on the first day of the ill-fated Gallipoli Campaign. On the same day, the local Territorial Army unit, the 7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers took part in the Battle of St. Julien, near Ypres.

The centenary of these actions was marked with a programme of events in the Town Hall, n the man street of Marygate and at The Barracks on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April.
