The Cittaslow Movement originated in Italy and has grown to embrace over 100 towns in countries throughout the world. Only towns with a population of less than 50,000 are eligible for membership of the Cittaslow Movement.
A Cittaslow town seeks to maintain and develop its distinctiveness and the quality of life enjoyed by its residents and the people who come to visit or work there.
The Cittaslow aim is to combine the elements of tradition with the benefits of modern technologies, intelligently applied. Regeneration and re-use are the priorities, rather than modernisation and re-development for the sake of change.
